A thought and Some nice shoes...

Hi friends...

I have two things to share today : Firstly...a thought.

A friend of mine wrote me a tweet as we generation X patriots often do (even in close proximity of one another...arb) sharing he's sentiments on a subject that immediately took my interest. The tweet read something like "Whats with all the status updates about hustling and grinding, sizwile ey fok!!" which I found intensely true.

I moved to Joburg to study about five years ago. Being a Jimmy-comes-to-Joburg of note, I've since learned a lot about this city. When people would say Joburg is "fast-paced" I didn't quite get it until i started really getting to know the lifestyle here.

People are on a constant hustle, and as good or motivational as that is, it can also get annoying to a certain extent. I'll give you a simple example, if you have facebook, you'll  already have "enjoyed" the flood of either one of three types of status updates that I call JobaurgSays.

The first JoburgSay is the Pseudo Motivator... You know who I'm talking about, they have a few things to be proud of, but nothing to right home about. They carry on like they've lived both Mandela and Gandhi's lives. And on Sundays, they even dare to go religious. Their status updates sound like this " We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. #ChangeYourAttitude"

The second is the My Uber Music Video Life Reporter...Yeah their at every single party in the most V of VIPs and boy are you gonna know about it. They upload pics, tweet location update statuses and tag celebs. They are basically the only gig guide you'll ever need, but it can really get too much especially when they start tagging you in party fliers!! Their status updates sound like this "We livin large son... Moet poppin Patron flowing and YOU KNOW I already got 'em yellow bones right? If you ain't here then you ain't sh**!! #Awuuuuuu #Leggo"

The third is the Im All About My Paper... I think that line just somes them up. All they talk about is get rich or die trying. Their constantly quoting Drake, Lil Wayne or JayZ. They even go as far as having US dollars for pro pics. They claim they never sleep... because "Money never sleeps son" and are all "On the brink of influential" Their status updates sound like this "I don't make friends I make money!! #GrindOrDie

I'm in no way suggesting that I haven't put up an update that sounds like that. We all have, but there are just some people who are relentless. I wonder if this grates anyone else's cheese like it does mine. What is with this? Its really bizarre how it seems to be growing by the second! Is it only in Joburg? Just thought I'd share my woes with you.

Secondly.....

The second thing I'd like to share are these amazing shoes i found on www.thecoolhunter.net . They have nothing to do with anything but I love them. I'm not into men's shoes...but these are fan-freggin-tastic!!! And that's all.

Ta...till next time :)

No selling out...

Hi

Friends, I'd been thinking, about leadership. Long indulgent drawn out streams of thought in between agency briefs. What about it and what it would take for one to attain it. There are countless theories and hypotheses on the subject and of course I'm no Naom Chomsky... not even any Khaya Dlanga.  One thing about leadership that stands out for me though, is loyalty. I feel its an inegral quality for a leader regardless of whether one is a grade one class captain or Barack Obama. You have to stick to what you believe, who you are and where you're going in oder for anyone else to follow.

You might think this is a random outburst of 'emo-ness', not to worry it's not. Not entirely anyway. I'd just like to express my utter awe in the amount of loyalty I have spent four years discovering in a friend of mine. I think many who have met her would agree, Kgomotso Tladi does not sell out. Does not snitch ;) Does not follow fad. Is true, is firm and I admire that. Therefore like for any other emotional outburst I have, I have pencil drawn her a picture. It's not a picture of her, but rather a picture for her. I hope she enjoys it.

Thats all friends. Thank you for not judging me and mumbling " I thought this wasn't an 'emo' outburst hmmmpf."
